For $55k, Steele House will deliver and install an enclosed, weatherproof Escape Pod to your site that you can complete on your own or engage our network of builders. The Escape Pod is a proven Steele House design, and the Starter Kit allows you to create an interior that meets your needs and taste, on your own schedule and within a budget you control.

What You Get

This modern home is made of a single container that’s fully framed, with a new subfloor and all the exterior doors and windows installed. The Escape Pod has a comfortable yet flexible interior, with a living room on one side and a queen-size bedroom on the other that converts to an office or separate lounge area. The eat-in kitchen and bath are located in the center of the home for convenient access.  Oversized windows throughout to give a full view of the surrounding landscape. 

High Design and Durability

Unlike traditional timber-frame modular homes, a Steele House is storm- and fire-resistant. Once it’s welded to the foundation it’s inherently strong and can withstand whatever climate change brings next.

And unlike other DIY kits that are assembled from smaller parts, you’ll be starting inside a completed structure. The day you start working, you’re halfway done. In a matter of days, you can be ready for a framing inspection and move onto electrical and plumbing rough-ins. 

Sustainable Living

Building with upcycled shipping containers is an optimal sustainable housing option, reducing waste and promoting environmentally friendly living. Steel is the most commonly recycled material on the planet and resistant to pest infestation. The Corten surface is rust-proof, eliminating wood rot and mold for easier maintenance.
